Explained
Anthropic published MCP in November 2024 to replace one-off integrations between each AI app and each service. Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code with GitHub Copilot, Claude Code and many other apps now support it.
MCP defines how an AI app discovers what a server offers (tools, resources and prompts), how it calls a tool with inputs, and how results come back. Remote servers are reached over HTTPS and typically use OAuth for sign-in; local servers run on your computer.
For marketers, MCP is what lets an AI assistant read your ad accounts, analytics and CMS directly instead of relying on pasted exports.
