Definition

OAuth is the standard way to let one app access your account in another without sharing your password: you sign in on the provider's own page, approve specific permissions, and the app receives a revocable token.

Explained

Remote MCP servers use OAuth twice over: your AI app signs in to the MCP server, and the server signs in to platforms such as Google Ads or HubSpot on your behalf.

Permissions are called scopes. A trustworthy integration requests only the scopes it needs and explains why. You can revoke access at any time from the provider's security settings.
